🌻 🌻 🌻
they won’t be here for long
they still choose to live
their brightest lives
― Rupi Kaur,
Have you ever longed for something in life so badly that out of no where, it finally happens and you have no clue how?
Since last few months i have had a strong desire for visiting sunflower fields. The idea of it and constantly bumping into pictures of it on social media made it so strong in my heart that i constantly imagined myself running wild in the fields. As a flower child (a young person, especially a hippie, rejecting conventional society and wore flowers as symbols of peace and love.), sunflowers in particular, this is something I’ve been really looking forward to experiencing. I even bought a bunch of sunflowers from a local shop for the first time in my life just for the sake of admiring its beauty.
Recently, I have had a chance to visit a Sunflower field in Coshocton, Ohio, a 1.5 hrs drive of tranquility filled country side views from our place. I was invited to attend a festival dedicated to SUNFLOWERS 🌻, can you believe that? A dream come true really! I don’t know if it was my constant wishing or a miracle that life offered me this opportunity to finally experience a sea full of sun-soaked sunflowers through my eyes.
Sunflowers have always been these magnificent flowers, standing tall & bright. I always wondered how it would feel like standing in between a vast field of sunflowers dancing merrily in the breeeze.
I was already very excited and honestly, a little overwhelmed with the thought of actually being able to experience that, but i was not expecting the immense joy i encountered from looking out & witnessing a sea of bright yellow sunflowers, so natural and purely a joy. I waded slowly through the narrow fields looking closely at each flower and their unique characteristics.
I feel we often get so occupied with the hustle & bustle of our fast paced lives that we forget to stop & smell the roses, and in this case, sunflowers 😉. We spend most of our time focusing on big things and wishing for a better tomorrow that we forget to enjoy life’s small pleasures.
I talk about this often because i top the list here!
Life can be lived only one day at a time. Human nature being what it is, we fret over the past and worry about the future, yet in the process we miss out on today’s gift. Gazing at the sight of an incredibly magnificent field of bright sunny flowers, i felt that i have been missing on such simple pleasures of life, praying and wishing for better days to come.
Having witness such a simplest form of joy nature offers us, i started to feel like this flower is not merely a kind of an experience but it offers so much wisdom towards life and that, we should all be like a sunflower in a true sense! Here’s why:
🌻 Dreams start small.
The tiniest of seeds, if fully nurtured, grows into something so beautiful like a sunflower, just like the tiniest of our life’s dreams could become into reality if fully nurtured with dedication & hard work. Be like a sunflower!
🌻 We all are different.
Sunflowers don’t fret over the weeds growing around them or other flowers rapidly blossoming around it, it grows slowly with its own pace, taking as long as it takes for it to grow tall and strong and fully nourished to finally open itself to the world. Most of us nowadays, compare our lives and our time with others and try to imitate what everyone else is doing and rushing through life blindly. We all are different with different perspectives towards life, different goals and aspirations, then why do we compare our growth or journey to someone else’s? We should take our own time to grow and chase our personal goals without having to look around. Be like a sunflower!
🌻 Focus on your light.
The sunflower always basks in the sunlight and grows towards light (that is the sun- its source of energy), it follows its own path and seeks growth. Likewise, we should follow and focus on our own light. Light here refers to focusing on things that makes you happy and helps you grow in life, things that helps you move forward and closer to your higher purpose, we all should develop habits and attitudes that connects us to our light (higher power).
On overcast days the sunflowers does not shrivel up and become despondent. They keep their heads up high, knowing that behind the clouds the Sun is still shining. The sunflower teaches us to continually seek the Light, even during those times when it may feel difficult or impossible to see and feel it. (Source: Message from plants, the sunflower)
🌻 Be who you are!
A sunflower being unique in itself, attracts bees and insects and of course people (us) when fully nourished and fully grown. The sunflower doesn’t have to do anything but be itself, and when fully nourished it naturally attracts connection from other creatures. Be like a sunflower! Nourish yourself and your soul, seek things that make you feel alive and to become the best version of yourself, the rest will follow and you will build a strong connection with others too , always remember- originality never goes out of style. Focus on your light & your journey without condemning about what others are doing with their lives and their growth. Explore your true self and be that!
🌻 We all are beautiful and we all are in this together.
Each sunflower has its own characteristic. It comes in different shapes and sizes, some with a big fat centre (I have one like that :P) but each is unique in itself and equally beautiful as the rest of them. We all are unique that way and posses different qualities but we all have beauty inside that needs to be nourished & appreciated for the world to see. Comparing yourself with someone else or wishing to be like someone else kills your own self-worth.
🌻 Stand tall and Rise above.
There are always a few sunflowers in the field that are taller than the rest. Likewise, in life there are always a few in the crowd who stand tall from the rest, living their life to the best way possible and achieving great heights and there are few who finds happiness in simple things and living an ordinary life, they take whatever life offers them and sometimes settle for less, leading to a comfortable life. I am not here to advocate on what’s the best way to live life(in both ways, the aim is to have a full-filled life right?) but i certainly believe that we all should aim for becoming that flower which stands tall amongst the rest and live its best life! Of course, it requires great commitment and hard work, and focusing on all the things i mentioned above, along with great will power & loads & loads of courage (tell me about it 🙄), but it’s not impossible and at the end its totally worth it. Be that sunflower!
May I grow
so tall and bright,
so free and wild,
so brave and
that when you
see me standing
you think I am a
Sunflower 🌻~~ g.c
